This is the book that has been the inspiration for many locally sourced diets, and remains a sometimes whimsical look into the tough chore that faced Vancouver apartment dwellers Smith and MacKinnon when they started their diet in the springtime when there was barely a leaf of local lettuce to be found near their home.

The Omnivore's Dilemma - A Natural History of Four Meals
Michael Pollan, The Penguin Press, 2006

Pollan, a professor of journalism and writer of three previous books, really hit the mark with this tome that asks all the right questions about where our food comes from and how we should eat. His follow-up to The Omnivore’s Dilemma, In Defense of Food, 2008, offered this motto: “Eat food. Not Too Much. Mostly Plants.”
